Protest against £2m cuts in youth service

Christopher Quinton, an ex-Conservative councillor who is currently running children’s charity Arch is planning a demonstration against Oxfordshire County Council’s plans to cut spending from £3.7million a year to £1.4million by 2013:

A More Coherent Approach Is Needed To Remove Youth Unemployment

In reaction to this years unemployment figures among the country’s youth, Cllr Margaret Eaton, Chairman of the Local Government Association has said that local goverments know what needs to be done, but "need the powers to make that happen":

Spending on schools to rise 0.7%

The latest pre-budget report from The Treasury shows increased school pending in addition to more money to help low income families:

Spending on schools will rise by 0.7 per cent a year in real terms in 2011-12 and 2012-13. Expenditure on sixth forms and further education colleges is to increase by 0.9 per cent – helping to fund a 2010 continuation of this year’s “September guarantee” of a place in education or training for every 16 or 17-year-old who wants one.
